Johnstone was one of the first registered graduate students studying with Peter Voulkos at the University of California Berkeley in the Department of Decorative Arts in the 1950s. In addition to Voulkos, Johnstone studied with Paul Soldner. She is most known for producing large salt-glazed storage-like jars with thick wooden lids attached by leather cords such as the present lot.
Overall very good condition. No chips, cracks or apparent repairs. The leather has deteriorated and would need to be replaced/removed.
