While teaching at the Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, California, Maxwell demonstrated ceramic sculpture using the present head figurines. Created over four decades after his famous Beasties sculptures, they recall a similar quick adaptability Maxwell found in clay, and show direct lineage from clay student to clay instructor.
